Hedge Cutting - questions answered

When should hedges be cut?
As a rule of thumb, cut once in late summer for most formal hedges. Fast-growing hedges may need two or three cuts a year.
Do you cut hedges with birds nesting?
The Wildlife and Countryside Act protects nesting birds. Work on dense hedges is checked first and, where birds are nesting, it is delayed until the young have fledged.
